IPL 2020 Preview: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
It is very surprising that a team has had the likes of Virat Kohli, Ab de Villiers and Chris Gayle in its ranks, and yet it has failed to win an Indian Premier League title. Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore has always been a strong side with three final appearances, but it never got a chance to lay its hands on the precious trophy. Lots of bettors have put satta on RCB to win IPL but they have failed every single time.
It is also a surprise that Bangalore’s last three seasons have been disappointing as they twice finished in eighth position. There were occasions when their bowling department let them down despite the team registering some big scores. The betting markets have always been kind on RCB with the betting odds but they have failed to deliver in every single edition of the IPL. Taking a lesson from previous seasons’ performances, Bangalore have strengthened their bowling line with the likes of South African ace Dale Steyn and all-rounder Chris Morris. As they prepare for the 13th edition of the IPL, Bangalore look in a good position in online betting market.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS FOR ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE TO WIN IPL 2020?
The latest IPL 2020 odds show Royal Challengers Bangalore at odds of 7.00 for the outright win, courtesy Betway, and there is a lot of support from the matka gambling public.
Bangalore have entered as the tournament favourites on many occasions in the past 12 years of the tournament. While many times they found themselves on the verge of winning the trophy, they couldn’t cross the final hurdle to end title drought. As they enter the tournament with renewed hopes and signing some important names, we will have a look about who are the players who can make it big in the tournament and the online gambling market.
Bangalore’s biggest name is their captain – Virat Kohli. He has led the team by example, becoming the highest run-getter in the history of IPL. His 5,412 runs in 177 matches speak volumes about his command over batting. In fact, in 2016 he was close to score 1,000 runs in a season. His 973 runs in that season, with four centuries and seven 50s, still stand as a record in the tournament. You can take him as IPL’s top batsman for the season. This is a great betting option and when you are betting online, you must always take his run-lines based on our betting experience.
Arrival of Chris Morris
South African AB de Villiers is another big name who will attract attention in the betting market given his consistent record over the years. Bangalore finished eighth last season, but De Villiers still did justice with the bat, scoring 442 runs in 13 matches. He is keen to take on any bowling attack this season. Bangalore have also signed Australian limited-over batsman Aaron Finch. If he is asked to open the bat, we can expect some big hitting in early overs.
Bangalore have spent a whopping $1.4 million for South African all-rounder Chris Morris who can open the bowling and play brisk innings at death overs. Along with him, English all-rounder Moeen Ali can also attract attention in matka gambling.
Left-arm spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Bangalore’s best bowler last season with 18 wickets in 14 matches, and Dale Steyn can also be the sought-after players in online gambling market.
WHO ARE THE BEST RCB PLAYERS TO BET ON?
RCB’s best player is one of the world greats and widely seen as the most dangerous batsman in world cricket right now. Virat Kohli always scores heavily for the men in red and black. In 2016, he came close to an incredible 1,000 runs in an IPL season.
The Royal Challengers squad is highly noted for a wealth of big names from across international cricket.
AB de Villiers, who quit international cricket, is back in action come IPL. The former South African captain is hugely popular in India and is still a major threat in the short form. Moreover, Kohli will also have the batting firepower of Aaron Finch (Australia) at his disposal.
Among bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal has been a prolific wicket taker in IPL cricket. He will have the support of the likes of Dale Steyn and Kane Richardson. Will they combine to finally make this RCB’s year and deliver an overdue profit in the online cricket betting market?
HIGHEST PAID PLAYERS IN RCB
RCB made changes during the auction for 2020 season, but they have retained their good performers. Virat Kohli is currently the most valuable cricketer in India and the IPL. He tops the list of the highest IPL earner with $2.4 million. De Villiers has proved his worth time and again as he takes away $1.5 million. Just behind him is South African Chris Morris who has been signed for $1.4 million. Among other notable names, Yuzvendra Chahal earns a healthy $0.83 million, while Shivam Dube gets 0.70 million. Aaron Finch will get richer by 0.62 million, while Umesh Yadav has price purse of 0.59 million.
Kohli tops the chart of wage bill, but IPL fans across world feel he is worth. Even the gamblers rely consistently when betting on cricket. The Bangalore skipper will certainly be a good option as an opener in the IPL betting markets. Bangalore have signed players with high salary packages, but will they help the team finally deliver a title?
The skipper will always be an option in the IPL betting markets for the top batsman. It’s a big set of salaries, but can RCB finally deliver a title?
ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE: HISTORY
Bangalore have had one of the strongest line-ups in IPL, but they could never remove the badge of underachievers from their shoulders. This time also, they have a side capable of winning the title and also able to rule matka gambling, will they end their wait is to be seen. They, however, were close to win the title on three occasions as they ended runners-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016. Kohli gave his best in 2016 with a record haul of 973 runs, but the team fell short of clinching their maiden title. They also made play-offs in 2010 and 2015.
Royal Challengers Bangalore were one of the original franchises that began campaign at the inaugural IPL in 2008. Virat Kohli was with that first squad. He joined after his superb performance at the U-19 World Cup and ever since he has been the main figure for the side throughout their existence. That first team also had Rahul Dravid as the icon player, and Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan as notable stars. Meanwhile, overseas picks included Mark Boucher, Cameron White and South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
Gayle-Kohli-De Villiers era
Despite the presence of star players, the team failed to play up to its reputation and finished seventh in the 2008 group stages. The poor performance saw criticism of top players by the team owner and also the sacking of CEO Charu Sharma midway through the tournament. In 2009 they made some changes and roped in Kevin Pietersen, Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey. It brought some new energy to the team as they reached the title clash same year. Unfortunately chasing a modest 144 victory target by Deccan Chargers, Bangalore managed 137/9 to lose the match by six runs.
Bangalore maintained their form next year as well, but they had to be satisfied with third-place finish.
Gayle-Kohli-De Villiers era started in 2011 when Bangalore bought the West Indian and the South African in the auction. Gayle took bowlers by storm as he scored 608 runs in 12 matches to win the most valuable player’s award. Bangalore reached the finals for the second time, but they lost to Chennai Super Kings in a one-sided match by 58 runs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore became consistent favourites in the matka gambling options, but from 2012 a mini decline set in. Gayle’s onslaught continued as he won the Purple Cap for the second year in a row, with 733 runs in 15 matches, but Bangalore finished in fifth position. There was no progress for next two years and the team could reach play-offs after four years in 2015.
In 2016, Kohli was in supreme form and there was a feeling that Bangalore’s title drought would end. Kohli scored heavily, taking the Orange Cap with an incredible 973 runs in the tournament. Bangalore entered the final with Sunrisers Hyderabad as clear favourites. Bangalore bowlers allowed the opposition to score 208 for seven. When Gayle and Kohli assaulted bowlers from the word go, it looked the team will chase down the target easily. But apart from Gayle’s 76 and Kohli’s 54, no batsman could reach the figure of 20. Bangalore fell eight runs short of target and their season ended in heartbreak once again.
However, next year, Bangalore hit the rock bottom, finishing eighth in points tally. They improved slightly with sixth-place finish in 2018, but slipped to eighth place last year.
Will the team make amends after incorporating some important changes in the squad? We’ll soon find out.
IPL RECORD: Royal Challengers Bangalore
Here is a record of Royal Challengers’ results in the Indian Premier League since the tournament began in 2008:
Appearances in the final tend to be followed by poor campaigns. And if Royal Challengers are to be an option for an IPL online satta, 2020 needs to see a big response from this squad.
NOTABLE PLAYER MOVEMENT
Given how lacklustre their last three years in the tournament have been, Bangalore went on a spree to purchase players with a generous purse of Rs27.90 crore. They also released a lot of players from their squad.
RCB went on to sign Aaron Finch (Australia), Chris Morris (South Africa), Dale Steyn (South Africa), Isuru Udana (Sri Lanka) and Kane Richardson (Australia) among others. The arrival of Finch, especially, should bolster their batting in the top order. Kohli made it a point to retain Steyn as he can be a great morale booster in the crucial matches, but the South African is prone to injury and with more emphasis on all-rounders, he may have to cede his position to the younger, fitter Richardson.
Marcus Stoinis (Australia), Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies), Nathan Coulter-Nile (Australia), Colin de Grandhomme (New Zealand), Tim Southee (New Zealand) and Heinrich Klaasen (South Africa) were notable names from Bangalore who have been released.
After the auction, it looks like an exciting combination for Bangalore. And if you’re eyeing up IPL online betting, 2020 might just be the year for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
PROJECTED ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE PLAYING XI IN IPL 2020
There are likely to be plenty of rotation once the tournament gets underway. Parthiv Patel opened the bat last year, he can be given the chance again to do it with Aaron Finch. It leaves Bangalore having AB de Villiers in No. 3 position and Virat Kohli in No.4. Chris Morris and Moeen Ali also look obvious choice for Bangalore for their all-round skills. It means it will be very difficult for an overseas player to make a place in the team.
While South African legend Dale Steyn returns to the side, Kane Richardson could feature more often given Steyn’s injury woes.
Chahal will spearhead the spin department, he can be assisted by left-arm spinner Pawan Negi. Pacers Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj will likely be the main pacers given the difficulty to select an overseas pacer.
Taking everything into account, if we’re looking at RCB and an IPL online satta, 2020 will likely give us the following starting XI.
1. Aaron Finch
3. Virat Kohli
4. AB de Villiers
5. Moeen Ali
6. Chris Morris
7. Pawan Negi
8. Yuzvendra Chahal
9. Washington Sunder
10. Umesh Yadav
11. Mohammad Siraj
RCB: TEAM STRENGTHS
Bangalore’s main strength has always been its top-order. Even after Gayle left the team in 2017, Bangalore had Kohli and De Villiers as top batsmen. With the likes of Chris Morris and Moeen Ali in the middle order, the team looks capable of scoring 200 or more in most of the matches.
Their bowling is also strong as they also have the spinners who can rattle opposition batsmen, but Bangalore’s real strength lies in the strong batting line-up. That always makes RCB tempting in the matka gambling markets.
RCB: TEAM WEAKNESS
Bangalore’s main problem for some years has been bowling. They scored big totals, but they didn’t have bowlers to defend that score. With Steyn at the helm of bowling affairs and Richardson, Morris and Udana being other choices, bowling line-up look good. But how many of them will find a place in a squad which looks tight for an extra space of overseas bowler. They have Chahal and Moeen as quality spinners, but there are not many spinners who fill in the gap if the duo fails to deliver.
Bangalore have been one of favourites for IPL satta online, but the team has failed to deliver as a winning combination in the past. Will they make most of changes they have gone through this season? Will they gel as a unit to win their second title? It has to be seen.
WHO ARE THE OWNERS OF ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE?
Like all IPL teams, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have powerful owners. In their case, United Spirits is at the helm. This is a subsidiary of the vast Diageo firm and it is the world’s second-largest spirits organisation by volume.
Representatives of United Spirits can often be seen at matches and they are big backers of this franchise.
WHAT IS THE HOME GROUND OF ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE?
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s traditional ground is M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Built in 1969, the stadium has the capacity of 40,000. But this time, the IPL is being played at the United Arab Emirates. The matches will be held at three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. ]
The tournament will most likely to be played in empty stadiums. In such a scenario, no team will have the home advantage. Also, the players will not be cheered on by the boisterous home crowd.
